Yoga Teacher Training seems so intimidating….. and it is a lot of work and commitment – I’ll give you that. However, the benefits far, far outweigh the effort you’ll put into it. And even though it is a lot of work …. it’s fun and oh-so enriching for your life. And here’s a confession (although those who know me already know)… I cannot and truly do not have a desire to do an arm balance! Yet – I am a yoga teacher and have happily been share the gift of yoga for the past 16 years – even sans an arm balance….. and no one cares!
I went to Teacher Training in 1999 because I was stressed and the only thing I found to relieve that stress was yoga. I never intended to teach, although it’s been a nice outcome that by attending teacher training it opened that door for me. My only intention was to learn as much as I could about this path that seemed to help with the pressure I was under. I chose to go to a live-in program (which was all that was offered back then) where I could totally immerse myself. I used all of my vacation from my corporate job for the year and had to take some unpaid leave, too. And it was so worth it – yoga has changed my life and made me realize my happy, peaceful nature – something that I never would have dreamed of back when my yoga journey began.
The good news for you is that there are now other options. Savannah Yoga Center offers you the ability to dive into yoga one weekend out of every month for eight months. No need for travel, paying for out of town accommodations or taking a chunk of time off of work to check it out. And plenty of people never really plan to teach – but just do it to understand and experience deeper levels in their yoga practice – and that’s okay, too!
Think you might be interested in becoming a teacher? I would love to meet with you one-on-one and answer your questions! Or let me know you are planning to come and sign up for one of the free info sessions at Savannah Yoga Center (see dates and times below.) Or if you prefer to go live-in route, ask me about the training at Satchidananda Ashram in Buckingham, VA. I want you to grow in your yoga and experience the astounding benefits from it that I have been fortunate enough to receive! PS -- I dug deep because it was in the days before the smart phone -- but here's a picture of me with one of my teachers on the day I graduated 🙂
